Q: What is ClickView Wireless?
A plug-in for ClickView Library Server which enables schools to deliver video in a wireless-friendly format across the school network.
Q: How much is ClickView Wireless?
ClickView Wireless is now an included component of the ClickView Library Server software and is included in the annual subscription price for Australian schools.
Q: How is ClickView Wireless integrated with ClickView?
An automated conversion process is configured using the ClickView Wireless plug-in within the ClickView Library Server.
Q: How are the videos delivered?
ClickView Wireless uses Microsoft Silverlight to stream videos from the local ClickView Library Server to any supported web browser. The videos are encoded to a lower bit-rate to allow for delivery over a wireless network.
Q: How do I get my existing ClickView videos in the format for ClickView Wireless?
You can begin the process of converting your existing library into Wireless format through the configuration in the Wireless software. This process may take some time depending on the size of your library, so we would recommend setting it up now before the holidays and letting it run so your libraries are ready in the new school year.
Q: How long does it take to convert videos ready for Wireless?
As a rule of thumb, 1 hour of video takes 2 hours to convert. ClickView Wireless requires a 3-4 week initialisation period - during which the ClickView Wireless video repository is progressively built.
The exact required conversion time will depend on your ClickView Library Server's hardware specifications, specifically the CPU speed. A dual-core 2.0Ghz CPU will be able to convert 30 minutes of video in 45 minutes.
The ClickView Wireless initialisation process should be completed (ie. all video converted to 300kbps) before integrating ClickView Wireless into a live environment. ClickView Wireless videos can be accessed (for preview purposes) as they are individually converted.
Q: How much extra space will be required to store the Wireless versions of my ClickView Library?
You will require approx 1/3 extra of the space of your existing library in storage for the Wireless versions of the videos.
Q: How do you select between watching a "Wireless" video or a normal (1Mbps) video?
Administrators can set up all school computers to either play the normal video or the wireless version automatically.
Q: Can a teacher using a laptop play the 1Mbps version of the video for use with a data projector?
Yes. Teachers will be able to use their staff authentication to play the 1Mbps videos on their laptops so they can play the higher quality picture
on their data projectors in their classroom.
Q: How do teachers obtain the URL of a video?
Simply right-click the video in ClickView Player and select 'Generate ClickView Wireless Link'.
Q: Can students without ClickView Player obtain links to videos?
Yes. Teachers can supply video links to students.
